When Columbia Public Schools carpenter Virgil Bramblett, 62, reported to work Nov. 17 at Hickman High School, he was attributing pain in his chest to sore muscles. A quick stop at the school nurses’ office resulted in a call for the school's automatic external defibrillator. The machine and school staff are credited with saving Bramblett’s life after suffering his fifth heart attack. His deteriorating health has caused a major setback towards his goal of renovating the house he lives in with his wife, originally built in the mid 1800s, near Fayette. He and his wife are expecting 20 for Thanksgiving dinner.
